The minimum data needed is as follows: we would like as much other data as possible
1) Species name.
2) Location, as precisely as possible. Either as a grid reference, we can accept Guernsey Grid, Jersey Grid, UTM grid, Perry's Guide grid, Latitude/Longitude, or as a description e.g. 100 yards along the Icart Road S. of Saints Farm.
3) Date. We need at least the year of the observation, preferably the month and day as well.
4) The name of the person who made the record.
1) How accurate is the location given, is it to within 10m, 100m or a kilometre? A Perry's Guide grid location is only accurate to about 400m. If the recorder comes into the Guernsey Biological Records Centre Office they can often position a record using Digimap (the Digital Map of Guernsey) to within a couple of metres.
2) Who identified the species?
3) How many of the animal or plant did you see? Was it a single individual, was it a flock of 100?
4) Any other field notes about the record. What was the animals behaviour? What other species were present? What sex was it? Did you catch the animal or pick a voucher specimen of the plant, have you a photograph of it?
