GBRC Surveys and Recording Projects
Our main purpose is to document the biodiversity of the Bailiwick of Guernsey.
Recording our wildlife, maintaining our database and mapping the distribution of our wildlife helps us to track the changing nature of our islands, helps monitor climate change impacts, invasive species and the health of native species.
It also helps us inform and educate people. We want to encourage everyone to learn about our islands and enjoy nature and wildlife.
Long-term monitoring is essential to effective environmental policy. As part of this, we can identify gaps in our knowledge and records and this is where the importance of dedicated projects come in. Frequently it is an independent amateur naturalist who notices an area that needs further study.

Red Data Book
A Red Data Book is a document established for documenting rare and endangered species of animals, plants and fungi as well as some local sub-species that exist within the territory of the state or country.
Here we present Guernsey’s first Red Data Book which is culmination of many years of hard work on the part of previous GBRC Managers, Dr Charles David, Jane Gilmour and Bridget Ozanne.
Caveat: By its very nature a Red Data Book is an ongoing, living document. The absence of a species from the book does not mean that species is not present or not at risk.
